Device Insurance & Claims: iHooldus Guide
An unexpected device breakdown is always an unpleasant surprise. Since repairing a device that is a few years old can often cost more than half its replacement value, we recommend taking out home or travel insurance. In the event of damage or total loss, insurance can cover the cost of repair or device replacement.
Insurance typically covers computers up to 4 years old and phones, iPads, or Apple Watches up to 2 years old. Exact terms always depend on your insurance provider.
What to do in the event of an insurance claim?
- 1
Notify your insurer
Register the incident with your insurance provider as soon as possible.
- 2
Bring the device for assessment
Bring the damaged device to iHooldus. We will prepare an official defect report including device details, purchase date, damage assessment and photo evidence.
- 3
Wait for the decision
Submit our report to your insurer. Once you receive the reimbursement decision, notify the iHooldus team as well.
- 4
Prepare your device
If the device is being replaced, you must remove the Find My function at www.icloud.com.
- 5
Excess payment
Upon arrival of the new device or completion of the repair, the client pays the contractual excess at the iHooldus office.
- 6
Warranty
The device carries a warranty of 3–12 months or until the end of the original manufacturer warranty. In the case of an official Apple device replacement, the international warranty is preserved.
* Device replacement typically takes 1–14 business days from receipt of insurance confirmation.
What if you have no backup?
Water damage, a strong impact or theft can destroy years of accumulated data. To avoid this situation, we recommend purchasing additional iCloud storage, as the free 5GB usually only covers contacts and messages.
Note: iCloud does not back up data by default — this feature must be activated on the device manually.
If the damage has already occurred:
In the case of impact or water damage, the data may not be completely lost. iHooldus offers professional data recovery, with pricing depending on the extent of the damage.
⚠️Critical warning
In the event of water damage, turn off the device immediately and do not put it on charge. This is the only way to prevent permanent short circuits on the motherboard.
